Venturing out of the Whelping Box

The pups will be 4 weeks old in a few days.  In just the last couple days they’ve developed the coordination and strength to walk and run and are beginning to play.  They are now growling and barking at each other a well as biting each other’s ears.

We had big plans to let them venture outside and discover the exciting world of grass, dirt, and open sky.  Unfortunately, the rain arrived in Helena today.  So we opened the whelping box and let them venture out at will to check out the mudroom and kitchen.

Beyond discovering the larger space -they also discovered their Mom’s food bowl.  I believe we have an early contender for the title of “Chow Hound”. Our male red schimmel pup was first in the food bowl and last to walk away.

About Trista

I am an ardent supporter of serenity, which I seem to lack being surrounded by 2 young children, 4 dogs, any number of puppies, 20 chickens, 3 horses, and depending on the time of year - lambs, pigs, or cows.
